Welch, Minn. (December 5, 2017) Treasure Island Resort & Casino cut the ribbon today on its $86 million hotel expansion making it the second largest hotel in Minnesota.
The expansion adds 306 rooms to the property for a total of 788. The new hotel space is actually two towers adding 185,000 square feet to Treasure Island’s resort property. The upper floors have breathtaking views of the bluffs, the Mississippi River and surrounding scenery.
Prairie Island Indian Community President Shelley Buck says the new hotel shows the tribe’s commitment to growth and expansion in the region.
“The leaders of our tribal community are charged with thinking ahead seven generations and adding this space for Treasure Island guests to enjoy for years to come greatly assists us toward that end.”
Among the hotel room amenities are state-of-the art lighting and high definition televisions along with the newest pillow-top mattresses and plush pillows. The spacious bathrooms have fully enclosed and tiled walk-in showers with rain shower heads.
The hotel lobby is also new and provides guests with enhanced front desk facilities to improve the overall check-in experience as well as an easily accessible business center. The lobby will also contain an Island Perk which will feature premium coffees and specialty drinks along with freshly baked pastries, delicatessen salads, sandwiches and desserts.
The Prairie Island Indian Community’s new hotel investment added approximately 200 construction jobs and will add more than 150 jobs on the property bringing the workforce to 1,800 team members; expanding its number one position as the largest employer in Goodhue County.
Treasure Island continued its long relationship with Knutson Construction which served as the project design-builder.
RSP Architects and Treasure Island also continued their partnership ensuring the look and feel of this latest project matches the upscale and contemporary feel of the recent property updates.
