Red Wing, MN (September 6, 2017) The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey has and will continue to displace thousands of people in the 32 declared disaster counties in Texas due to catastrophic flooding. Tens of thousands of those are living in shelters and other temporary housing where basic needs are urgently being met. Many of those displaced families may be housed in shelters for weeks ahead.
In an effort to help others in the aftermath of this historic event, Treasure Island Resort & Casino has been in contact with the American Red Cross and its Disaster Operations Center and is working to send personal care products to the afflicted region.
“Many times, relief organizations indicate that sending goods into a disaster zone actually causes more harm than good,” said Kevin Smith, Treasure Island’s head of public relations, “But in this case the personal care products we are sending are in great need and we are working with Red Cross logistics staff to get them there at the appropriate time.”
Products due for shipment include nearly 60,000 pieces of shampoo/conditioner, lotion, facial soap and toothbrushes/toothpaste, which will be distributed to families in the flood zone.
Treasure Island is proud to partner with Guest Supply a Sysco Company which has stepped in by covering all the costs related to shipping the freight to Texas.
