PRAIRIE ISLAND INDIAN COMMUNITY AND EBENEZER MANAGEMENT SERVICES ANNOUNCE OPENING OF TINTA WITA TIPI SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY IN WELCH, MINNESOTA
First such senior living community in the state incorporates culture into care for aging community members in the region

Welch, Minn. (August 1, 2018) The Prairie Island Indian Community, a federally recognized Mdewakanton Dakota Tribe, is pleased to announce the opening of Tinta Wita Tipi – a new elder assisted living lodge in Welch, designed to bring together aging residents in the surrounding community. The facility is the first of its kind in Minnesota as it specifically caters to both the cultural and health needs of seniors by encouraging family involvement and placing an increased importance on the honor, care and respect that is traditionally shown to elders in the Dakota culture. Tinta Wita Tipi officially opened its doors in June 2018 and is managed by Ebenezer Management Services, one of the largest residential management companies in Minnesota.

“We’re thrilled to see this project come to fruition and to welcome both native and non-native elder residents from the area,” said Tribal Council President Shelley Buck. “In Dakota culture we celebrate our elders and this facility allows aging community members to receive the care and respect they deserve while also addressing their healthcare needs.”

Tinta Wita Tipi is a single-story, 38,000-square-foot building located on 18 acres of tribal land near Highways 61 and 316 in the Welch Township and less than 10 miles from Prairie Island. The senior living community offers 20 one-bedroom assisted living apartments in a comfortable setting. Ten of the 20 apartments are open to non-native residents from the surrounding community.

“We meticulously worked with tribal leaders to create this senior living community, as well as the customized care provided within, to honor and celebrate the Dakota culture,” said Susan Farr, Ebenezer Vice President of New Business Development. “We are dedicated to providing an innovative, comfortable and compassionate environment for our Native American Elders and the surrounding community.”

Community amenities include:
• Superior residences – Full-sized kitchens with stainless steel appliances, in-home washers/dryers, private patios and
free storage.
• Community feel – Serene courtyard garden with a covered porch and patio, community room, dining area, inviting entry
plaza, lobby and lounges.
• Daily activity programming – Full-time activities staff will lead exercise, crafts, celebrations, happy hour, fine
