Country legend Willie Nelson & Family to perform at Treasure Island

Red Wing, MN (March 6, 2017) American singer, musician, songwriter, author, activist, outlaw country music star and redneck hippie can only describe one person – Willie Nelson. See Willie & Family along with special guests The Charlie Daniels Band and Bruce Hornsby perform outdoors at The Island on Friday, June 9, 2017.

With a career spanning six decades and an impressive 200 plus albums to his credit, this iconic Texan shows no signs of slowing down with his music, writing or performing. The critical success of his albums Shotgun Willie and Red Headed Stranger back in the 1970’s, catapulted Nelson to being one of the most recognized country artists and the title he still holds today.

Willie Nelson’s first #1 hit was, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” but that was followed with more #1 and hit singles such as, “To All the Girl’s I’ve Loved Before,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Midnight Rider,” and “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” to name a few.

However it was his song, “Always on My Mind” that not only topped Billboard’s Hot Country Singles but also earned Willie three Grammy Awards including, Song of the Year, Best Country Song and Best Make Country Vocal Performance. The single was certified platinum while the album, Pancho & Lefty, was certified quadruple platinum and in 2008 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

For the first time in three years, Willie Nelson will release a collection of new material. His new album, God’s Problem Child is set to release April 28th, the day before the Country Music Hall of Famer turns 84.

Joining Willie will be CMA Award winning country artist The Charlie Daniels Band. The first hit for The Charlie Daniels Band was “Uneasy Rider.” Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” and his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards.

Over the course of his career, Charlie has received numerous accolades including his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and becoming a member of the Grand Old Opry.

Also performing will be American singer and keyboardist Bruce Hornsby. Hornsby draws from a variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, Motown, gospel, rock, blues and jam band as inspiration for his songs.

Hornsby’s recording career started with the album, The Way It Is which reached multi-platinum status and produced to big singles, “The Way It Is” and “Mandolin Rain.” His musical talents have been recognized with industry awards including 1987 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, the 1990 Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album and the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
